Sgt. Robert H. Taylor, Jr. was born on August 12, 1965 in Washington D.C. to Robert H. Taylor, Sr. and Margie Taylor and shared his childhood with four sisters, Beverly, Linda, Karen and Kathy (Edward). He married his best friend and the love of his life, Tiffany on September 21, 1996.  They welcomed their daughter Madison in 1999 and their son Austin in 2001.

When Robert wasn't working as a Police Officer at the Charles County Sheriff's Office in the Traffic Operations Unit, he enjoyed improving his golf game, home improvement projects, skiing, baseball, steaming crabs, vacationing in Cancun at their timeshare every other summer but most importantly, spending time with his family.

Loved and highly regarded by everyone who knew him, he shared a passion for life most would only hope to imitate.

The Sokoloff Family (518) That Smile July 4, 2012
The first time I really MET Rob was when I was working an overtime assignment with him about 3 years ago.  I knew who he was from seeing him at the briefing, but I had never said a word to him.  I pulled him over in is agency truck for having a light out.  I walked up to the car all serious, ready to give him my spiel about why I stopped him and all and when I got to the driver's side door, there he was with that smile and he just said, "Yeesssss?"  I about busted out laughing right there and then on the side of 301.

Ever since that moment, whether it was on a checkpoint or at Chipotle having lunch,  I never remember seeing him without that smile (if you want to know which smile it was, check out the kissyface picture in the gallery!).

To Tiffany, Madison and Austin, I feel so badly for your loss.  I am sure your pain is beyond words right now.  I know this because there are tears on my face right now over your loss.  But, this will pass and you will learn to remember Rob for who he was.  I certainly don't envy you going through any of this, but I do envy all the great memories that you undoubtedly have of your wonderful dad and husband.  Remember those other times, not this week!  That is who your dad was.  That is who your husband was.

Finally, you may not realize it, but your family is HUGE!  The entire Sheriff's Office is grieving.  We're grieving because we have lost a brother too!  And, just like any other family member, please call on us (at least me) if you need anything that you think we can help you with.  And I promise, we won't crash your family reunion, even if we ARE family!

Our love and prayer goes out to you in this difficult time.

Tiffany -

With the tragedy that occurred at the Navy Yard the other day I noticed that one of the names was Proctor and thought of Officer Proctor and if he might be related to one of the victims.  I then looked up Robert and was shocked to learn of his passing.  Although we had not seen either of you for almost 20 years - I want you to know how Robert and you had stayed in our thoughts.  Robert was a true friend who touched many lives, including my own.  I will always have fond memories of my time with CCSO and Robert always comes to mind as a kind friend who would always have your back.  He was a man among men and you couldn't ask for a better soul and confidant.  Always having that twinkle in his eye and a glowing smile to pick you up. Ginny and I both remember the love you had for one another as you were dating and you must know that he totally adored you.  We could see it in the way he looked at you and how he would talk about you on night shift.  Last Redskins season we had partial season tickets and I mentioned to Ginny that we needed to get in touch with you both to see where your seats were and meet up.  Our hearts go out to you and your family and we want you to know that Robert will never be forgotten and we will miss him dearly.  Please let us know if you need anything.  God Bless and Take Care.  Mark and Ginny Giroux

Wade Never Lose Touch with a Friend September 19, 2012

To the Taylor family:

Please accept my condolences for your loss.  I am very saddened to learn of Robbie’s passing.  Robbie and I became friends in the mid-80s.  In 1990 I moved away from Maryland and eventually we lost touch.

I recently turned 45 and I was thinking back at all of the friends I’ve made over the years and the fun we’ve had.  Robbie was one of those friends that came to mind.  I decided to do an internet search for Robbie and was shocked to learn he had recently passed away.  My heart is so heavy as I write this.

I want to close with this:  To anyone reading my message…If you have been thinking of reconnecting with someone you have lost touch with; do it now—as tomorrow may be too late.

Again; I am so sorry for your loss.  Warmest regards, Wade
